State of the Art Research and Production Facility Coming Online Fall 2018 Posted on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 and is filed under News
Last month, Lignum Vitae N.A. broke ground on its new research, engineering and production facility for water lubricated bearings made with lignum vitae hardwood material. The 13,000 square ft. facility will feature state-of-the-art technology and tools including robotics, proprietary layup, 3-D printing, laser measurement and more to meet growing global demand and enhance production capabilities of lignum vitae bearings across a wide range of industries.
The new high-tech facility also will enable Lignum Vitae to expand its research capabilities and quality control processes, with an eye toward uncovering additional uses of lignum vitae in other industries where demand for reliable, single-source and sustainable solutions is high. It also will facilitate further field-testing and patent development. All of Lignum Vitaeās engineering, design, sales and marketing functions also will be housed at the new site.
The Lignum Vitae team designed the facility to reduce the immediate environmental impact of its production processes, with a long-term goal of reducing waste and improving efficiency. When complete, the facility will feature highly efficient radiant floor heating fueled by waste from daily operations and LED lighting. Built using reclaimed wood, a high performance structural insulated building panel roof and walls will round out the timber frame structure.
In addition to the new research and production facility, Lignum Vitae also recently invested in upgrades and improvements to its sawmill to enable more accurate cutting with greater yields. These improvements will enable more precise cutting and increased capacity to meet more aggressive delivery timelines for its global customers.
The company currently has more than 250 tons of lignum vitae material onsite at its existing headquarters and production facility, enabling it to maintain an aggressive purchase order to shipping schedule of 72 hours. The upgraded sawmill, new facility and current supply will enable Lignum Vitae to continue to meet the demand for immediate, unplanned needs and outages, as well as to partner with clients looking for longer-term solutions.
