Lignum Vitae North America awarded another contract for Water Lubricated Main Guide Bearings for Alabama Power.

Lignum Vitae North America LLC, the world leader in water/self lubricated bearings, is pleased to supply another water lubricated main guide bearing for one turbine rated at 24,300 kilowatts. Neely Henry Lake is located on the Coosa River near Gadsden, Alabama. The lake was formed by the Neely Henry Dam (57 ft high), and was built in 1966 by Alabama Power Company for hydroelectric power and recreation. Completed on June 2, 1966, the dam and reservoir were named for H. Neely Henry, a senior executive vice-president of Alabama Power. The dam has a 72,900 kilowatt generating capacity; the lake covers 11,200 surface acres. The installation of lignum vitae demonstrates Alabama Power commitment to non-polluting environmentally responsible installations. It is believed to be the same bearing put in service in 1966 giving almost 50 years of continuous service!
